Spondylosis is a condition in which there is abnormal wear on the cartilage and bones of the neck (cervical vertebrae). It is a common cause of chronic neck pain. Spondylosis is caused by chronic wear on the spine.

Spondylosis is the often-painful deterioration of the spine, usually caused by changes in spine triggered by age, lifestyle, osteoarthritis and/or previously injured spine.

Spondylosis indicates inflammation of the spine/spinal cord; the most common conditions affecting the spine. Spondylosis is a general term which includes degenerative changes of the spine arises for example the intervertebral disc shrinks, dehydrates, trauma or other changes arise. Irritation of the nerves arising from the spine may occur due to the change in the intervertebral disc space. The internal parts of the discs may also herniate (protrude) as the outer coverings become less pliable with age.

Discs act as shock absorbers between the bones of our vertebrae (spine). Spinal discs have a tough outside and a softer inside. With age, our discs become thinner and don’t cushion the bones as well. The other cartilage in our spine may also wear away.

When our vertebrae aren’t well-cushioned by discs, they may grow bone spurs to protect themselves. Sometimes the bone spurs press on a nerve.

Damaged discs

As our spine continues to deteriorate, the discs may bulge out between our vertebrae. These damaged discs may also press on our nerves. In a few cases, a disc may rupture or herniate, causing a sudden increase in pain along with numbness, tingling, and other symptoms.

The combination of all these processes can result in our spinal canal becoming narrower, causing our spinal cord to have less room. This is a condition called spinal stenosis. Crowding of our nerve tissue can cause pain.

Spondylitis and Spondylosis

Spondylitis is often misused in place of spondylosis making students/patients believe these to be one. Spondylitis is an umbrella term that includes age-related spinal problems.

The other two most common types of spondyloses are cervical and lumbar spondylosis.

These terms indicate the location of the problem on the spine, that is the cervical spine or, broadly, the neck region and the lumbar spine involving the lower back.

Cervical spondylosis may affect about eighty-five percent of individuals after the age of sixty without any symptoms, like pain, numbness or tingling along the neck and arm (in cervical spondylosis) and the back and the legs (in lumbar spondylosis) may commonly arise. In some cases, there may be difficulty in coordination of movements, loss of grip, loss of control of the bladder or rectum.

In daily practice, we see a high number of younger patients with spondylosis. due to lack of exercise and physical activities.

  • In the home setting, many patients use furniture that is not meant for computer or office work, for long time.
  • Constant digital device usage, whether computers, tablets or mobile phones, has been a major factor in younger patients developing spondylosis and other related conditions.
  • A physical examination following a detailed description of symptoms is usually considered sufficient to begin management, but a simple MRI can serve as a vital tool to confirm the diagnosis.Spondylosis-Causes-Symptoms-Diagnosis-Treatment-Best Homeopathic doctor-Dr Qaisar Ahmed-Al Haytham clin-Risalpur-Pakistan

Symptoms of spondylosis

Pain is the main symptom of spondylosis. Other symptoms may depend upon where you are experiencing problems and on the type of spondylosis. For example:

Cervical spondylosis symptoms

A jerky walk may be the first sign of cervical spondylosis, along with neck pain and stiffness. In this type of spondylosis, the pain can spread down to the arms and to fingers. It often comes and goes. Numbness, weakness, and tingling are other possible symptoms, along with headaches at the base of the skull.

Thoracic spondylosis symptoms

Thoracic spondylosis causes pain in the middle of back along with early morning stiffness. If patient have thoracic spondylosis, both bending and extending his/her body can cause pain, as can twisting the spine.

Lumbar spondylosis symptoms

Lumbar spondylosis causes pain in lower back that may be worse in certain positions. Often, bending makes the pain worse, while straightening up relieves it.

Besides back pain, symptoms of lumbar spondylosis can include numbness and tingling in buttocks and legs and, in some cases, a loss of bladder or bowel control.

Diagnosis

Your doctor will check for spondylosis by giving you a physical exam. Diagnostic tests can include:

  • X-rays to check the spaces between your discs and look for bone spurs.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computerized tomography (CT) to look for nerves that are pinched or crowded.
  • An electromyography (EMG) or nerve conduction study (NCS) to check how well your nerves are carrying signals.

Allopathic treatments for spondylosis

There is not any treatment in allopathic medicine for spondylosis. Because some degeneration of our spine is a natural part of aging, most doctors take a conservative approach to the treatment of spondylosis. Even if diagnostic tests show some evidence of spondylosis, it may not cause pain.

Several studies have looked at individuals with spondylosis. When they were given MRIs, from 37% to 79% of these individuals showed evidence of disc degeneration, but they did not report experiencing back pain.

If the doctor decides that treatment is necessary, they will often begin by prescribing medications such as pain relievers, muscle relaxants, and anti-inflammatory drugs, may also prescribe physical therapy to strengthen the muscles that support patient’s spine. Steroid injections are another option.

If these therapies fail (almost 98% cases), and patient have pain along with weakness and numbness, the doctor may offer surgical treatment, which could involve spinal fusion, disc repair, removal of bone spurs, or other remedies.

Homeopathic Treatment for Spondylosis

Prolonged pain in neck and back could be due to spondylosis and needs to be Homeopathically treated.

A common misinformation/misconception from allopathic drug mafia is that spondylosis can only be treated through surgery, in Homeopathy there are many proven medicines for spondylosis, here are very few of them:
